Sonny O, M.D. Profile

SONNY O, M.D., F.A.C.S., A.S.P.S.

“Beauty is truth’s smile when she beholds her own face in a perfect mirror.” – Rabindranath Tagore.

Words of inspiration, to be sure, but also a career philosophy for Dr. Sonny O.  Although Dr. O was born in South Korea and childhood years were spent in America Samoa, he considers himself a Southern boy at heart.  He moved to Alabama as a teenager and discovered that American Southern hospitality wasn’t just a cliché.  Dr. O attended the University of Mobile on a golf scholarship, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and obtained his medical degree from the University of South Alabama.  It was during his internship and residency where Dr. O had his first experience with South Carolina.  He completed his residency in General Surgery at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), during which he also completed a one-year research program.  Following his residency, Dr. O was selected to participate in a Fellowship in Plastic Surgery at the prestigious University of Miami in Miami, Florida.

Ultimately Dr. O found his niche in plastic surgery and began to focus only on facial and neck rejuvenation. He knows that whether he’s redefining a patient’s eyes, brow, skin or neck, his handiwork will be on display for all to see, and perfection is the only acceptable outcome.

Dr. O is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of numerous professional medical societies at the local, state, and national levels. He has authored 17 peer-reviewed papers and has given numerous presentations on plastic surgery. He has also served as an Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and since 2003.

Married with two daughters, Dr. O enjoys traveling and spending time with family. He still (allegedly) shoots a respectable score in golf.
